Hi, I'm Catherine, and this is Mermaid City Kids (or MCK for short) a lifestyle blog dedicated to sharing and exploring all that makes Norfolk (and the surrounding Hampton Roads region) such a great place for families.
I live in Norfolk with my husband James, our 6-year-old daughter Anne (we call her Anouk), and our one-year-old son Gus. We also have a rescue pitbull and two cats. Together we are renovating our 1940s Cape Cod by the Chesapeake Bay. Our family does a little hiking, crafting, cooking, sewing, thrifting, eating and a LOT of exploring.
James and I met in DC and lived there for over a decade before moving to the Hampton Roads area. I'm a Norfolk native by birth, and I started this blog because I believe that the Norfolk-Virginia Beach metro area is one of the most beautiful and interesting places to raise kids. There are so many family-friendly things to do and see, and I want the world to know all about them. I'm enjoying sharing some of my old favorite places and discovering new ones with Anne and Gus in tow.
